  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)

    Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training is perfect for educators directly intervening in crises, teaching staff de-escalation techniques, and restrictive and nonrestrictive interventions.

    Staff will learn decision-making skills to match the level of the response to the crisis risk, focusing on the least restrictive response to ensure students' care, welfare, safety, and security. This includes recognizing the stages of an escalating crisis and learning evidence-based techniques to deescalate appropriately. NCI training emphasizes physical intervention as a last resort and appropriate to the level of risk.

    Close physical contact is required for this training. Participants should expect to have contact with other people’s body parts, including, but not limited to, hands, arms, legs, heads, and faces.

    The core training program of Crisis Prevention Institute's (CPI) Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training equips staff with proven strategies for safely defusing anxious, hostile, or violent behavior at the earliest possible stage. Participants are provided training in defining the stages of crisis in terms of identifiable behavioral levels and appropriate staff responses. 

    Additionally, participants will learn verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques, personal safety principles, and physical control strategies to manage aggressive students safely and non-harmfully while establishing a therapeutic rapport after a crisis. Registration is offered in MyTalent, Course #: 426098 

    School administrators with at least five staff members who need CPI training may request school-based training. Follow this to request a certified CPI instructor bring training to your campus.

  • Behavior Support Staff Training

    Behavior Support Staff training is crucial for educators as it provides them with the necessary tools and strategies to effectively manage challenging classroom behaviors. By learning behavior management techniques, support staff can create a positive and safe learning environment for all students. Additionally, Behavior Support training helps staff identify and address the underlying causes of challenging behaviors, leading to improved academic and social outcomes for students.

    The Student Discipline and Behavior Support Department offers monthly Behavior Support Staff Training and Onboarding for new behavior support staff. The training takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  All behavior support staff must register for training in MyTalent:Course #: 426123 PDV: Behavior Support Training 24-25.
