Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Druid Hills Academy, where it’s a GREAT day to be a Panther!  

I am so very excited to kick off the new year with each of our families, the amazing staff at DHA, and our community partners.  I am humbled and honored to have spent last year here and anxious for the greatness that lies ahead in year two.  We have so many incredible opportunities this year.  We are FULLY staffed and READY to go.  We have been feverishly working all summer to prepare for the BEST year EVER at Druid Hills Academy.  We made unbelievable progress last year, and the momentum is only growing.  Our climate and culture is all about positivity and pride.  Our academics doubled and tripled in grade level proficiency. (yes, you read that right!) Our suspension rate dropped exponentially.  Our parent engagement was nothing short of AWESOME.  Our partnerships proved to be incredibly successful and supportive.  I’m so thankful and proud of the joy that was a direct result of our engaging, inclusive, and intentional learning environment.  

Here are some nuts and bolts to make an even more perfect year:

• Ensure that your child comes to school DAILY (unless they’re sick) AND that they’re on time (7:30)

• Make sure that your phone number(s) are updated with the front office and your teacher and answer your phone when someone from school calls 

• Partner effectively with your child’s teacher and staff to work together to serve your child

• Keep up with the school calendar and °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵcalendar (both are available on line and on paper)

• Get as involved as you can 

• Come to the parent engagement events 

• Check your parent square messages and class dojo

• Celebrate when your child succeeds and is recognized (quarterly awards, principal pals, etc)

• Make sure your child reads every night & check their take home folders daily

• Support your child’s teacher when they reach out for assistance - we all want what’s best for all children

Open House is on August 22nd from 4:00 - 6:00.  We will have book bags to give away, you’ll meet your child’s teacher, you’ll fill out forms, and you’ll confirm your child’s mode of transportation.  We have a new Assistant Principal and several new staff members for you to meet.  And, we will be providing hot dogs, chips, and drinks for dinner.  

Our new AP is Kaz Muhammad.  He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and passion for the work.  I am already in awe of his skillset and drive towards excellence.  Here is a note from Mr. Muhammad: 

Dear Druid Hills Academy families,

My name is Kaz Muhammad, and I am honored to be named the new assistant principal at Druid Hills Academy and to join this extraordinary school.  I have had the privilege to serve students and staff over 20 plus years in °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵat Albemarle Middle, Garinger High, Independence High, Turning Point, Military & Global Leadership Academy, Marie G. Davis IB, and Hidden Valley Elementary School.  I am excited to continue to build relationships with families, community members, staff and students.  

I am committed to creating an inviting environment where staff and students feel safe, seen, respected and valued.  I am also dedicated to academic excellence and cultivating a sense of belonging for all students.  It is my goal to continue to build upon our strengths, identify our opportunities for improvement, and to provide the necessary support for change.

We look forward to seeing you all on August 22nd from 4:00 - 6:00.

¡Bienvenidos al año escolar 2024-2025 en Druid Hills Academy, donde es un GRAN día para ser Panther!  

Estoy muy emocionada de comenzar el nuevo año con cada una de nuestras familias, el increíble personal de DHA y nuestros socios comunitarios.  Me siento honrado y honrado de haber pasado el año pasado aquí y ansioso por la grandeza que nos espera en el segundo año.  Tenemos tantas oportunidades increíbles este año.  Contamos con personal COMPLETO y LISTOS para funcionar.  Hemos estado trabajando febrilmente todo el verano para prepararnos para el MEJOR año de todos los tiempos en Druid Hills Academy.  Logramos avances increíbles el año pasado y el impulso no hace más que crecer.  Nuestro clima y nuestra cultura tienen que ver con la positividad y el orgullo.  Nuestros académicos duplicaron y triplicaron el dominio del nivel de grado. (¡Sí, leíste bien!) Nuestra tasa de suspensión cayó exponencialmente.  Nuestra participación de los padres fue nada menos que IMPRESIONANTE.  Nuestras asociaciones demostraron ser increíblemente exitosas y solidarias.  Estoy muy agradecida y orgullosa de la alegría que fue resultado directo de nuestro entorno de aprendizaje atractivo, inclusivo e intencional.

Aquí hay algunos aspectos prácticos para hacer un año aún más perfecto:

• Asegúrese de que su hijo venga a la escuela DIARIAMENTE (a menos que esté enfermo) Y que llegue a tiempo (7:30)

• Asegúrese de que su(s) número(s) de teléfono estén actualizados con la oficina principal y su maestro y responda su teléfono cuando alguien de la escuela llame 

• Asóciese efectivamente con el maestro y el personal de su hijo para trabajar juntos para servir a su hijo.

• Manténgase al día con el calendario escolar y el calendario de °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵ(ambos están disponibles en línea y en papel)

• Involúcrate lo más que puedas 

• Ven a los eventos de participación de padres 

• Consulta los mensajes de tu cuadro de padres y el dojo de clase.

• Celebre cuando su hijo tenga éxito y sea reconocido (premios trimestrales, amigos principales, etc.)

• Asegúrese de que su hijo lea todas las noches y revise las carpetas que lleva a casa todos los días.

• Apoye al maestro de su hijo cuando solicite ayuda: todos queremos lo mejor para todos los niños

La jornada de puertas abiertas será el 22 de agosto de 4:00 a 6:00.  Tendremos mochilas para regalar, conocerá al maestro de su hijo, completará formularios y confirmará el modo de transporte de su hijo.  Tenemos un nuevo subdirector y varios miembros nuevos del personal que puede conocer.  Y ofreceremos hot dogs, papas fritas y bebidas para la cena.

Nuestro nuevo AP es Kaz Muhammad.  Aporta una gran experiencia, conocimiento y pasión por el trabajo.  Ya estoy asombrado por su conjunto de habilidades y su impulso hacia la excelencia.  Aquí hay una nota del Sr. Muhammad:

Mi nombre es Kaz Muhammad y es un honor para mí ser nombrado nuevo subdirector de Druid Hills Academy y unirme a esta extraordinaria escuela.  He tenido el privilegio de servir a estudiantes y personal durante más de 20 años en °ÅÀÖ¶ÌÊÓƵen Albemarle Middle, Garinger High, Independence High, Turning Point, Military & Global Leadership Academy, Marie G. Davis IB y Hidden Valley Elementary School.  Estoy emocionado de continuar construyendo relaciones con las familias, los miembros de la comunidad, el personal y los estudiantes.  

Estoy comprometido a crear un ambiente acogedor donde el personal y los estudiantes se sientan seguros, vistos, respetados y valorados.  También me dedico a la excelencia académica y a cultivar un sentido de pertenencia para todos los estudiantes.  Mi objetivo es continuar aprovechando nuestras fortalezas, identificar nuestras oportunidades de mejora y brindar el apoyo necesario para el cambio.
