Mr. Robert Doug Neill

Hello Sterling Elementary School Families and Community!

Please allow me to introduce myself!  My name is Mr. Doug Neill, and I am proud and honored to serve as the next principal at Sterling Elementary School.  I have spent the last 20 years working in education for CMS.  I was born and raised in Charlotte, and I am a proud graduate of South Mecklenburg High School, where our Sterling Tigers are zoned to attend.  I am also a Tiger myself, as I attended Clemson University.  I then went on to obtain my Master’s Degree in Teaching from UNCC and my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Queens University.

While I am an educator, I am first a husband and a father who comes from a proud line of teachers and coaches.  We will get to know each other and build our relationship, and as we do, know that I want the same for our students at Sterling that I do for my little girl- to get the education and school experience they deserve, which will allow them to grow academically and emotionally and set them up to achieve their hopes and dreams.
The definition of “STERLING” is: “when describing someone or their work, of very good quality.”  Some synonyms of “sterling” are: excellent, first-class, highest in quality.

My plan is to continue to continue the great work that has been happening at Sterling, while always looking for ways to make myself and our school “of the highest quality” to serve our students.
Please reach out with any questions, ideas, or thoughts.  It truly "takes a village" to do this work, and I am eager to partner with all families, staff, and the community to support our students.

I am looking forward to a great 2024-2025 school year!
